Quality Assurance
of Subjects 2004 |
| The major outcomes of the Quality Assurance
Scheme in 2004 for the units administered by the Department of
Zoology are summarized below. |
-
Biology 11OF Organisation and function of cells and organisms
- The response to the questionnaire
indicated a continued endorsement of the high quality of
presentations by lecturers most of the time and the value of
practical laboratory classes. The lecture notes on the web were
considered particularly good. The introduction of a weekly
tutorial (for the Animal Structure and Function lectures) was
appreciated by many students.
|
 |
-
Biology 11AD Animal Diversity
- Students generally find the subject
matter interesting, and the consensus is that the subject is
well taught, with lecture and practical classes being truly
integrated. Learning outcomes are considered successful.
Most students felt that the workload for this subject was
appropriate and that support material assisted in understanding
the subject.

- Zoology 22ENT Entomology
- QAS was not undertaken in 2004
|
|
- Zoology 21AE Animal Ecology
- QAS was not undertaken in 2004
|
|
- Zoology 22VMP Vertebrate
Morphology, Evolution and Comparative Physiology
- The subject exposes students to the real
correlation between theory, animal structure and practical
experimentation. Most students were of the opinion that
the practicals complimented the lectures, that the notes
provided were useful and staff involved with the unit were
helpful. While many students valued both the physiology
and morphology components of the unit, a number would have
preferred to opt for one over the other.
|
 |
- CBE211C Issues in Conservation
- Overall assessment of the unit was
favourable and no significant deficiencies were revealed.
Following student 'written responses' a handbook is to be
prepared and greater cross referencing of lecture content will
assure greater integration of the various components.
